The mineral chrysoberyl, whose formula usually is written Al2BeO4, contains small quantities of iron and chromium, older analyses showing 4-6 % of iron. At the suggestion of Professor, dr. V. M. Goldschmidt we have endeavoured to synthesize analogous compounds, substituting larger quantities of aluminium with other trivalent ions, the radii of which are of the same order of size.
