In south-west Norway, there has for long been controversy over the presence of large arnounts of crystalline rocks above Cambro-Ordovician phyllites - Are they autochthonous or allochthonous? A new whole-rock Rb-Sr isochron date of about 1160 million years is favourable for an allochthonous interpretation and extends the complex of crystalline overthrusts from central Norway to the south-west coast.
