Diabases from a sheeted dyke complex associated with greenstones, gabbros and ultramafics in the Tørvikbygd area of central Hardanger have typical ocean floor geochemistry. This complex represents a dismembered and strongly deformed ophiolite, the Tørvikbygd ophiolite, and is unconformably overlain
by a thick development of metasediments and volcanics of probable Ordovician age. These relationships demonstrate another example of primary basement-cover relationships within the Caledonian nappe sequence in southwestern Norway.
